Hi-Lo Mackerel & Spaghetti in Spicy Marinara Sauce


  • 2 packs Hi-Lo spaghetti
  • 2 cans Hi-Lo Jack Mackerel in Tomato Sauce
  • 1 tbsp. Hi-Lo Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 tsp Hi-Lo Vegetable Oil
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 tsp basil (chopped finely)
  • 1 cup tomatoes (diced)
  • 1/2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup onion (diced)
  • Hi-Lo Red Hot Pepper Sauce (to taste)


  1. Fill saucepan with water and bring to boil.
  2. Add a pinch of salt and a dash of oil, spaghetti and cook until al dente (about 9-12 minutes)
  3. Place in colander and drain and set aside.
  4. In a separate pot, heat oil and add garlic, 1/2 cup onion, thyme, and 1/2 cup tomatoes. Cook until onions are translucent.
  5. Add Hi-Lo Mackerel and let mixture come to simmer.
  6. Add sugar, ketchup and pepper sauce.
  7. Finish off sauce stirring in remaining onions, tomato and fresh basil.
  8. Add spaghetti and evenly coat pasta with sauce.
